The Weather

The tropical climate of the Dominican Republic is fed by moist, warm air, but because of the north-easterly winds at the north shore the temperatures are more tempered. Allthough the temperatures are lower there, one should never underestimate the power of the sun.

Big temperature changes do not exist, at the most 5 ° C. The hottest period is between the months of May to October. The temperature is between 30 and 35 ° C and the humidity is very high. The rainy season does not mean that you have to count on uninterupted rain. Most of the time they are short but heavy bursts of rain in the afternoon or at night. There really is not a specific rainy season on the island. The periods of rain are spread evenly during the months May to November and for Puerto Plata the heaviest rainfall occurs in November/December.

The dry season for Puerto Plata is in the period from June to September. In the wintermonths, the average temperature is between 24 and 28°C.
