The mating dance of the humpback whale

From the middle of January till April you can watch a beautiful spectacle: humpback whales get together to mate of the coast off Samaná. They arrive from the waters of Greenland and North-America, to breed in the warm currents of the Caribbean. From excursion boats you can watch these 40-ton animals up close during their mating dance.

It’s this time of the year again. The humpback whales arrive in the bay of Samaná. Experience this once in a life-time spectacle, that is protected by the nature preserve laws.

From Santa Barbara de Samaná we take a boat over to Cayo Levantado (Bacardi-Island). From there we continue to the Bay of Samaná to watch the humpback whales.
